On the basis of the decree of the USSR Council of People's Commissars on the expansion of the Network of Military Educational Institutions, the People's Commissar of Defense of the USSR issued order No. 035 of April 1, 1937, according to which “… to form in Sevastopol, the training of command personnel for ships and units of the fleet. The newly formed school is the name of the “2nd Naval School”. The first set at the school was carried out at the school at the end of July – early August 1937. Among the cadets of 1 set, most were Komsomol members who arrived at the school of the Komsomol Central Committee: “Youth are to military schools!” The construction of the school began in July 1937 by military builders of the Black Sea Fleet with the direct participation of cadets of the first sets. Initially, two one -story residential buildings were built. At the same time, work was carried out on laying the foundation of the first stage of the educational building, the construction of a boiler room and a bath. The cadets of the first set had to live in tents, broken on the seashore, not far from the coastal battery. Classes were held in the open air and in unfinished rooms. Simultaneously with training, using every minute of free time, cadets worked on the construction of school facilities. In winter, cadets were placed on the ship Ochakov, which was delivered in the Bay of Streletskaya. A training building, a boiler room, laundry, a vegetable storehouse, two residential two -story buildings, and a sanitary unit were built.

For the construction of the new school, there was a territory of more than 50 hectares between the Bays of Streletskaya and Sand. It was a real wasteland. There were no buildings in the allotted territory, except for the educational coastal artillery battery of a casemate type built in front of the 1st World War.

With the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, early issues were held at the school. Pupils of the PBVMU with their courage, courage, high professionalism and limitless love for the homeland entered the proud name of the native school in the combat chronicle of the fleet at various naval theaters of military operations. 1794 graduates of the school in battles with the Nazi invaders with honor passed through the males of wars, together with the whole people brought the long-awaited victory. Thirteen graduates became the heroes of the Soviet Union, and two were awarded this title in a peaceful post -war period. Among his pupils is the Hero of Socialist Labor and five heroes of the Russian Federation.

After the end of the Great Patriotic War, April 4, 1946, it was decided to restore the Black Sea Naval School to train small ships for two years.

On April 30, 1947, in accordance with the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of January 27, 1947, the school was awarded the Battle Banner of the unit, under which the ChVVMU for the first time after the war took part in the parade of the troops of the Sevastopol garrison on May 1, 1947.

April 3, 1975 by Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR for great services in the training of officers for the Armed Forces and in connection with the 30th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. ChVVMU them. P.S. Nakhimov was awarded the Order of the Red Star. In June 1983, in honor of the 200th anniversary of the Black Sea Fleet and the hero city of Sevastopol, a monument to the graduates of the school was erected with the first P-15 cruise missile installed on it.

In 1992, by a resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on the basis of the former Black Sea Higher Naval Order of the Red Star School named after P.S. Nakhimov and the Sevastopol Higher Naval Engineering School, the Sevastopol Naval Order of the Red Star Institute of the Navy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine named after P.S. Nakhimov. In 2009, the Academy of the Naval Forces of Ukraine named after P.S. Nakhimov, which was the only higher naval educational institution in Ukraine until 2014.

After the referendum on declaring the independence of the Republic of Crimea with the subsequent reunification of Crimea and Sevastopol with the Russian Federation, on March 20, 2014, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, at the suggestion of the RF Ministry of Defense Sergei Shoigu, signed the Order on the revival of the Black Sea Higher Naval Order of the Red Star of the P.S. Nakhimov.

May 13, 2014, on the Day of the Black Sea Fleet, the school named after P.S. Nakhimov was awarded a new type of combat banner.

Currently ChVVMU provides full military-special training of officers and foremen in 7 specialties. Training is conducted in accordance with federal state educational standards of the third generation. The formation of the necessary military professional competencies among cadets is ensured by strict observance of the qualification requirements for the military professional training of graduates approved by the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy.

Training is carried out according to the programs of both higher and secondary vocational education.
