IZH-Planet Sport is a unique sports IZH!

Later releases of Planet Sport were equipped with a domestic K-62M carburetor with a smaller diffuser diameter, due to which the maximum power decreased to 28 hp. On the basis of Planeta-Sport in April 1975, the production of sports motorcycles for the multi-day enduro Izh M-15 and the cross modification Izh-K-15 began.
Soviet motorcyclists gave the motorcycle IZH Planet Sport the nicknames Dog (from the abbreviated IZH PS), Sportak. Due to the unusually high quality, it was rumored that Planet-Sport was intended for export to the United States.
It was on this motorcycle that many were engaged in the most real motor “tuning” – they bored the cylinder for the M-412 piston or for the piston group of the cross-country 500 cc “chezetta”. The power increased one and a half times, but the resource decreased to one season (the standard IZH-Planet Sport withstood 50-60 thousand kilometers without noticeable wear of the main components).

Izh Planet Sports – Mid -class traffic motorcycle, designed for tourist and sports trips on roads with different coverage alone or passenger. It was produced by the Izhevsk motorzer from 1973 to 1984.

In 1973, the Izhevsk plant surprised Soviet motorcyclists with the first serial sports motorcycle Izh Planet Sport. The motorcycle was very unlike the counterparts both externally and in design. Outwardly, the IZH-PS was very similar to the Japanese motorcycles of the mid-1960s (for example, Suzuki T250 Super Six, 1966, Yamaha 350r5 of 1970, Kawasaki A1 Samurai in 1966). Thanks to the high technical level of design and the quality of manufacture “Izh Planet Sport”, many countries of the world were exported. They were especially popular in the UK, the Netherlands and Finland, where they successfully competed with Java and CZ motorcycles.

At the time of the start of release, the motorcycle cost about 1050 rubles, subsequent parties began to be sold at 1000 rubles. The motorcycle lasted on the conveyor until 1984, after which he was discontinued. Among the Soviet motorcyclists, the “Izh PS” of the first years of release, which were expensive even at the age of ten, were most appreciated.

The technical “filling” (with the exception of the little things) was completely original.

For the first time in the USSR, a separate lubrication system for the engine of its own development (Izh-Mami) was used, although the first 500 motorcycles with separate lubricants were released in 1974, this party was implemented only in 1975.Separate lubricant was installed until the end of the IL PS release, since 1976, a separate lubricant engine could be distinguished by an additional letter “M” in the room. The only thing that after 1980 their total amount decreased and the bulk was exported [1]. Engine with a working volume of 340 cm³ (piston diameter – 76 mm, move – 75 mm), was equipped with a Japanese carburetor Mikunithat allowed him to develop 32 liters. with. at 6,700 rpm. Thanks to this, the motorcycle had high dynamic qualities: the acceleration time to 100 km/h did not exceed 11 seconds. The engine was fixed in the frame using rubber pillows – the technical innovation of that period. In the first years, motorcycles were equipped with Japanese electrical equipment and optics of the West German company Hella, due to which the requirements of the UN UN of lighting were met for the first time on the Soviet motorcycle. The front wheel differed in size 3.0 × 19.

Early Izh Planet Sport can be distinguished by mounting the engine on rubber pillows, the rear light, shock absorbers (there were stainless steel glasses), there were reflectors on the headlights. For this purpose, Yamaha bought a license for the production of a four -stroke engine, front wheels and disc brakes With hydraulic drive. “Izh-orrion”, in fact, was supposed to open a fundamentally new modular family of motorcycles: with the interchangeable tail of the frame and a subframe for installing various power units, the rear suspension monamortizer and the appearance of the classic road worker … The result is zero!
At first, no one thought about how to “feed” a four-stroke air-cooled engine (engine oil should lubricate the components of both the engine and the gearbox). In the Soviet Union at that time there was no oil digestible for a Japanese engine. And in Izhevsk they began to tailor the “Japanese” to our standards: to separate the engine and gearbox according to oil. It is better not to know how many bumps were stuffed in the process of such demodernization. Never before in the domestic motor industry have such details as a compact oil filter, large diameter piston rings, an original timing chain and a roller bearing of the lower connecting rod head been used. The greatest harm was caused by technologists who sought to simplify detailing, forms and, most importantly, reduce costs. But it was nevertheless built: lame and cross-eyed – yes, ours! An experimental batch, assembled almost by hand, nevertheless managed to be released. However, “from above” replicas began to be heard like: who needs such a problematic motorcycle? The four-stroke project is ingloriously dead.

IZH – SPRINTER – SIRIUS – 400

The motorcycle was created by “implanting” into the “Orion” chassis a liquid two-stroke engine of its own production, unified according to the box with the Yamaha engine. Tests of such motorcycles, called Izh 7.110 Sirius, were carried out at full speed, the adjustment of design documentation was nearing completion. There was a novelty in the brochures of the plant. But the more successful things were, the cooler the leaders of motorcycle production in the defense holding Izhmash were about the release of new cars. They pressed on trifles, demanded new checks of nodes, adjusted them to the old GOSTs. And the young were driven into the coffin.

IZH – PLANET – 400
